Default For Jim Poor

Hey Jim! I visited your website and you say on your website "I'm Jim Poor and I'm rapidly becoming the Mid-Atlantic Region's most in-demand Dog Sport Photographer".

I didn't think there were any islands between the UK and US (not including Ireland). Where's the Mid Atlantic Region?

Only joking! Your photos are great and the reason I visted is to get some ideas on how to photograph a dog agility show/dog show.

Obviously my holiday photos at Carnival Week won't be anything of your calibre but could you give me some tips. Its a fun event to photograph. Last year I took some on an instant throw away camera.

The "Dog Most Like their Owners Catagory" is my favourite!

Thanks!

I almost didn't see this. I'm about one state away from changing that to "the entire eastern seaboard."

Are you looking at full on agility? What sort of dog show? Conformation?

I assume outdoors since it is a "carnival."

Are you using any lighting for the dog/owner look-a-like?

I'm getting ready to eat and finish the flooring in our bedroom, but I'll come back and try to add more.
It will help if you can answer some of the questions.

Talk to you soon.

Oh, there is a lot more experience over at The Nature, Wildlife and Pet Photography Forum: Home which is where I regularly get my hind quarters handed to me by folks who know a lot more than I do. Stop by and say hi.

Why would you eat the flooring of your bedroom?

You missed the "and."

Actually Jim, you missed a comma.

"I'm going to eat, and finish the flooring in our bedroom" (including the comma) would tell us that you're going to eat, and then separately go and finish the flooring in your bedroom, whereas "I'm going to eat and finish the flooring in our bedroom" tells us that you're going to eat the flooring, and then finish it.

As another example - "I'm going to go and wax and vacuum my car" (no comma) tells us that you're going to wax-polish your car, and then vacuum it, whereas "I'm going go and wax, and vacuum my car" (note the comma) would suggest a session of hair removal, followed by detailing the interior of your vehicle.

Ah, the subtleties of language...

Russ.

Hi Jim! I hope you enjoyed your meal a la flooring

The dog show isn't an elaborate affair.

See these pics of the Official photos by Trevor Rich:

Dog show photos at bottom of Page 2

Swanage Carnival 09

I just want to take some photos like yours! Nice close up ones of the dog jumping over the fence etc. I want to get a shot of the dog jumping over facing the camera head on with the wind flowing majestically through the dog's fluffy coat - you get the idea!

I want to compete with this "pro" so that I can upload some of my own photos onto the Offical Swanage and Regatta Carnival Website so it will be one point to me!

The lighting I have won't be anything special other than my speedlight.

I hope this has given you some idea of what I am hoping to achieve.

Isn't this thread the reason why PMs were invented?

No. If anyone else wants to chip in they can. Private Messages are "private" that you don't want anyone else to see.

DarkReaver do you have anything else USEFUL to add. Do you know how to take dog show photos? Dog photos are Jim's speciality which is why I asked him on a PUBLIC forum only because he's the only one that springs to mind. That's not to say he's the only one out there.

Got to go to my real job now.

Will check back in later.

Plus it gave me a chance to correct someone's written English, which is, to be honest, the high point of my day...

Well then, perhaps you should have broadened the question, perhaps created a thread about the photography of said Jim Poor, maybe about dog photography or an open question instead of a thread directed to one person.

What you have done is the internet equivalent of shouting across a room at someone rather than going over and talking to them, which is not very polite at all. If everyone started doing this then the forum would be nothing but a cacophony of people shouting thus strangling any public discussion.

I would deem this USEFUL because it is a VALID comment on how PEOPLE maybe get better usage out of a forum.
