Default Question.....

So I got to wondering, If I am driving through town and see in someones yard beautiful flowers and photograph them from the road, is that invasion of privacy?

Nope. Now, if you were shooting into their house through the windows, that would be another story.

Might be nice to knock on thier door and chat witlh them about the flowers though. Could turn into a whole series of images or even an article.

If you're standing on the sidewalk, street, or from another public point, you're good to go.

No! My experience is that often the owner/s will come out and appreciate you admiration of their garden, so offer to send them pictures!

Only if you are on their property, if you can see it from a public place you can photograph it.

Not so. INSIDE their own home they have an expectation of privacy.

Same goes for telescope peeping from your own home to someone else's.

That whole "if you can see it from a public place, you can shoot it" bit is too wide a brush and dangerous advice to give without caveat on a forum full of folks who may not know better.
