Question Everywhere - How do you carry your camera?

I understand the concept of "take your camera with you everywhere" but I simply can't figure out how to do this. (I don't carry a cell-phone, so the camera phone isn't an answer).

I can't quite imagine how I could go into the classroom, or into our chapel, constantly carrying a camera - and those are the two places I spend most of my time. On the other hand, I also see great pictures go by in those locations and others.

Those of you who carry the camera everywhere: do people comment? How do you keep it handy?

I have a small camera (or did have, broke it on Saturday) much like the one they are giving away in the competition.
I just slipped it into the side pocket of my purse and had it all the time. For a large camera I'd say the only way is to invest in a nice camera bag/purse combo!

I did everything but sleep with mine, honestly, it was attached to my hip.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a larger camera and I'm guessing my purse will have to be rather large

There are certain places that I do not take my camera because it just does not work for various reasons ....i.e. the gym ... church..the grocery store. I'm finding that I have to ease into the carrying-my-camera-everywhere-routine.

For me, I would like to have a large enough purse to safely carry my camera ... or maybe a backpack. Still working on it.

I have this camera backpack, which pretty much goes everywhere I go. The top compartment holds my subnotebook computer and some diapers for my littlest one (doubles as extra padding!).

I have different bags for my different cameras. the bags have grown as the cameras have. i think my favorite bag was a small sling type bag that hung from my back with one strap going across my chest, it was very small, but it kept my camera and batteries and things I would normally carry in a purse (ditched the purse). I could carry it over one shoulder like a purse, or throw it on over for hands free/no worries carrying. With my dslr I have the same style of bag, but it is specifically for cameras. And I still don't carry a purse, this doubles. I also still have my first digital camera, that is quite small and I tuck it into whatever I am carrying or my pocket. And yes I have had some people comment on my carrying it, but for the most part they are all used to me by now, plus it is worth it for the pictures I did NOT miss. (some of the ones that have commented on my having it, have also asked for copies of what I have snapped)

Same with mattdm, I put it in my backpack with my notebook and my campus stuff such as loose leaf, etc. If you are using pocket digicam, it's a lot flexible and you can take pictures almost anywhere.

I have a camera bag sized at 12" x 9" x 8". I bought it 15 years ago to handle my video camera. It has held up well and works perfect for my Pentax K10d. when I am on foot, I sling it around my shoulder and my camera around my neck ready to go. I often shoulder carry my Giottos tripod which is sheathed in a nice bag as well. When I am driving in my motor, my camera bag is seatbelted in the front passenger seat with bag open.

I try to take it with me most places but I make some exceptions because I think it could be awkward and possibly make people feel uncomfortable.

Default Everywhere too....

I have a small Roots slingback style camera backpack that I carry with me everywhere. My family and friends are used to me having it. I feel lost without it..... I have a small Powershot that I have in my bicycle bag for those quick shots..
