As far as magazines go, that's impossible to answer. Only because there are tens of thousands of magazines out there and each one would want/need something different.

National Geographic has very good landscape and people interest images. Lens work has very good "art" images.
As for criteria it really depends on the type of image we are talking about here as well as the photographers intentions on what the image should convey to the viewer. If the photographer was able to get the viewer to see what they saw then I guess in the simplest form I would consider it a good image.

magazines i usually hit up...
cmyk juxtapoz photoshop user computer arts beautiful decay how these mags are about a 30 min trek from where i live, since we have NO bookstores. i am looking for more readily available subject specific mags that i can pick up most anywhere. i prefer art oriented publications since i am a traditional artist. other than nat geo, etc.....what do you browse when you are in walgreens waiting for a prescription? or in walmart waiting for your significant other to finish shopping? |

To me a good photo elicits some kind of emotional response--anger, happiness, fear, sorrow, awe. If it doesn't do that for me, then I don't think it's a good shot. I am kind of a beginner. I shoot pictures for me, if everyone else likes it, that's a bonus. But if I don't like it, no matter what anyone else says, I will think it's crap.

A great photograph...one that makes me want to return time after time to study.
