My name is Joe and this is my first post so here goes.
I'm fairly new to photography but I'm very interested in learning more; especially a certain type (style) of photography found in architectural and food magazines as well as images found in Sunset and Real Simple magazines. Here is a great link that illustrates the type of photography I'm interested in doing: decor8. Does this type of photography have a name? Besides practice (which is always best) what kind of books or online resources are there to better assist me? What kind of gear (camera, lens(s), lighting) would I need? As of right now I own a Canon Rebel XTi, a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens and a Tamron 17-55mm lens. I also have a Canon 430EX II Speedlight. I'm looking to upgrade my camera to either a Canon 7D or a used 5D. Any type of help would be greatly appreciated. |

Strictly speaking thats just architectural photography, though it's indoors and is concentrated on the interior design than anything else.
If you're serious about it, you'll want a full-frame body and one of canon's excellent Tilt-Shift (TS-E) lenses, like their 17mm f/4 ($2350) or 24mm f3.5 ($2160). They're both very wide, but will allow you keep the vertical lines vertical, preventing keystoning.

I also think it is interior design photography and exterior for the outside.
