On Candleman's new camera thread there is talk about using the separate card slots on his new Nikon (SD and CF) to shoot and store both JPEG and RAW separately yet simultaneously.
One poster suggest that it would be a great back up in case of card corruption. I have a shot probably near 50,000 shots on 3 CF sandisk cards, most of them bursts, and never had anything that looked like a corruption issue. Add to that my P&S which has had the same 4gig SD card in it for 3 years and 8000shots and hours of movie without an issue. The question is: How many of you have ever had a decent quality card go FUBAR? |

I did have a couple when that went fubar on me when they first came out. But Lexar replaced them free of charge. That was back in 2002 era.

I have not had any but i've been only shooting for around 3 years which isn't much.
If I was shooting a paying job you bet your booty i'll be writing to the secondary slot for backup. Then when the cards are full i'll be backing them into a portable backup device.

I've never had it happen personally, but there's no such thing as bulletproof media. That's part of the reason the D3 has twin slots.

I would back up in case of losing a card or accidentally deleting, but the talk is always about corrupt cards and I have never seen it.
If Jim as a full tilt pro shooting sports with huge files can go 8 years without an issue, that seems to settle it. Let me add the caveat - I can believe a card not working before you start (IE factory bad batch) Last edited by gturner; 06-19-2010 at 10:32 AM. |
