i finally upgraded, just ordered a D300s

now, it does 7fps out the box.
if i want to shoot jpeg(norm) + Raw, what sort of transfer rate on the SD/CF card do i need to alow the camera to actually operate at its full framerate?

Apparently adding an MB-D10 battery grip can squeeze 8fps out.

I use the 60mb/sec UDMA Sandisk cards with my D3.... 11fps with uncompressed RAW.

I actually wrote about it a while back.

Let me find it.

Here's my comparison with a 133x Transcend card and a 60mb/sec (400x) Sandisk Card.

Go CF, the whole way... don't bother with SD cards... waste of time.

http://sportsphotoguy.com/best-cf-cards-for-nikon-d300/

IMO read/write in-camera is not that big a deal unless you do alot of CH shooting in RAW. However, a UDMA card in a firewire reader is fantastic for getting the stuff into the computer. I use Sandisk Extreme IV and thier firewire reader.

My D3 uses dual CF slots which can be configured in many ways (Raid1, one for Raw the other for JPEG, Overflow) Depending on your needs, I think I would set the D300 so that the SD recorded Jpeg copies of the RAW sent to the CF, or as overflow storage.
I have mine set as RAID 0 (mirroring).

thanks Eric, i had a read.. i have "verbally" ordered a sandisc extreme (8GB) ... but now that i read the link sk66 gave i'm wondering if its really all its cracked up to be.
but i dont need huge frameraqtes for a long period, or often.
the 60mbps is probably OK for me.

i didnt know you could do that. sounds pretty good being able to split the files to different cards.
are you saying the D300 can do that between the CF and SD ?
i thought it was an either/or situation.

thanks for the info guys

No, i don't think it can.

The D3 has dual CF slots, so it can be used an over flow, or for dual writing for a back up or for RAW + JPG shooting.... quite handy.
