I just had my 30th Birthday and received a canon 500D, from my husband, I always wanted one, now I have relalised what I want to do in life, be a photographer, so any tips for starting out...

Hi Berdealia, welcome to dPS!

Are you brand new to photography or is this just a new replacement camera?
I would get to know my camera really well (read and reread your manual), read everything I could find about photography and practice everyday.

Default A good book for your new camera....

Go to the book store and plunk down the $20 for the "Magic Lantern Guide" for your camera. It has all the info that the user guide that came with the camera does, but (for me, at least) in an easier to understand format. Some of them come with a tear out pocket cheat sheet to carry with you when you go out to shoot.

welcome to the photography world! Now that you have a camera what's next? --- a new beginning, that's what.. new ways of learning how to take photo's that is.. new ways of stepping it up to the next level..

this forum has got plenty of things to learn off from.. a reading on something of your interest leads to another area of interest and so on.. it just keeps going and going ! but most of all have fun and keep clicking (that is after you thought if the click is worth it)... :d D:
