At the moment I have a point and shoot. I am looking at getting a NikonD90 that would be my first DSLR. My question is should I purchase backgrounds/faux flooring and use the camera that I have? or Should I get the camera first? Should I even bother with backgrounds at the moment.

my advise would be to forget about backgrounds until you have a firm grasp on how your camera works, as well as basic lighting and posing. (i'm talking reflectors and window light)
do you know the exposure triangle, whitebalance yet? a park is the best and cheapest backdrop you'll ever find... learn to make the most of what you have and develop an eye for composing people on various backgrounds, and eliminating annoying background objects with framing, posing etc etc ![]() all the best

Learn the mechanics of the camera first, then photography and worry about everything else later.

Thats it, there is heaps to work with on the camera and in learning exposure and composition before you need to worry about spending on backgrounds. |
