Default very new to dslr

I am hopefully soon gonna be able to get the Sony Alpha 550, dslr of my dreams. I have a few dumb questions about the dslr. I have asked a sales associate at Sony Style, online at Sony.com, and a few other people at other stores. One guy sent me to a bookstore to buy a book, that isn't on any local bookstore shelf or in their computers. Not sure where he got the book, because I haven't found it online myself either figure I have the name wrong, but oh well.

I am wanting to get in action sport shooting, wildlife, some portraiture. Let's say I have a 8GB memory card, it obviously can hold a few shots. The Sony a550 has 7fps. How many seconds can I continuously hold down the shutter before it stops shooting?

I also want to get some awesome summer nite storms and I can't seem to hit the shutter button at the right time, so I would like to use it then too. Continuous shooting so I know I can get atleast 1 good shot lol.

I appreciate all your help.

Yea - there are a lot of variables that go into your answer. You're sure to find your answer here though.

Seems most of your questions have already been answered in your other post.. But about the lighting..
Lighting shots at night are not about having a quick shutter speed or taking lots of shots in bursts, its about slowing it down to 10 or 20 seconds. You can google how to shoot lighting, and you will find some GREAT suggestions on how to do it! But I can tell you up front you are going to need a remote and a tripod and you use the bulb setting on your camera. Have fun with the new camera!
