is anyone heading down for the summit to take photos? any suggestions on keeping safe? i don't feel like getting arrested or have a garbage can thrown at my face.

or should i just stay home and not risk dying hah

If you're gonna go (and why not?) you'll probably want a helmet (probably like a skiing helmet) and kneepads (just in case). Bring a kerchief or bandana for when the teargas comes out. Earplugs would likely also do you some good.

The only thing to really worry about is water: police tend to use firehoses to disperse crowds, and there's very little that will protect from that much water.

Keep your wits about you, your head on a swivel and a good eye for how things are going. When in doubt: fall back. Always tell someone where you're going, what time you're expected back, etc. Use FB or Twitter if necessary.

With the security (for which we are paying a huge amount) you may not get very close. But at the edges there will be some "protesters" so keep your eyes open, and move away if things get rough.
