Either camera is a good camera.
However one of the main things is how does the camera feel and how does looking through the viewfinder appeal to you. If it doesn't feel good to use then you won't use it. Go into a camera store and try some of them out.

The only way you'll really know which one you'll like better is to test them out. No amount of reviews can determine that for you.

"better" how? Both have pluses and minuses.
It's a broad broad topic which often degrades into a Canon v. Nikon thing. In the end, either one will be fine for you, especially as a beginner. You can't really go wrong with either one of the Big Two. Richard and Naeno nail it on the nose saying that you need to get both in your hands. Once you get a bit more experience, I believe it's more important to then ask which lens to get next once you outgrow the kit lens. I think the glass is often more important than the body. Good luck. |

When you go to a camera store be sure to get a knowlegable sales person. I am a newbie also and made a few expensive mistakes in purchases. i found that the right sales person can show you what each camera does and how, can show you what lens is best suited to what purpose. I have two cameras I love and carry with me almost everywhere. However the Nikon D90 with a tamron 2.8 17-50 mm lens and a nikkor 2.8 70-200 mm lens is my choice of equiptment. I may go to a 2x converter when I get more experienced and an external flash.
