I love camping. It the "roughing it" element that really appeals to me. The kids love it too and it really enhances their life skills such as team work helping to erect the tent and bang in the pegs although there are always a few tears and tantrums on who's turn it is to use the mallet but we are working on compromise skills on that lol! Also it's great for making friends. The children always make friends easily with other families when we camp.
We have so many tents in our garage that we bought on whims. Here is the low down: Tent #1 - A HUGE frame tent, you know the ones where you need a degree in construction engineering to figure how the poles all fit together. Its guarenteed to rain on the day we put it up and rain then we take it down. It's massive but takes up the entire boot of the car needless to say we struggle to fit all the other paraphanalia - Its down at the back on the garage! Tent #2 - An easy to put up flexi-pole affair but the zip broke on the main entrance the first time we used it so we used it for the holiday, took it back to the shop and got a refund. Tent #3 - This one was the real cherry. We scoured the internet camping shops and came across this family tent that claimed "You'll be the envy of the campsite in this comfortable family tent". Well my sister-in-law and family turned up and there was our tent flapping away in the wind and her's that was everything that ours wasn't and I spent the entire holiday envying her's lol! I said the hubby. That's the one I want - get it! Tent #4 - Got the afore mentioned tent but its great for week long holidays but not practical for short spontaneous weekends. Tent #5 & #6 - Tent #5 was a little 3 man tent we used in our dating days which is super easy to put up so we got another 3 man (#6) so that girls can sleep in one and boys in the other but hubbs said that his was too complicated to put up. Tent #7 - The latest 3 man tent. Still in its packaging. Not used yet. Hubby and son will use that one while me and daughter in the old favouite "dating tent". I can't wait for our holiday! Hopefully the weather will hold off. As long as its not raining. We did buy extra thick sleeping bags but judging by the current weather we will be roasting lol!

Good luck with the weather Rachel.
Where are you going? (Generally, ya don't want DPSers papping you as you emerge from your sleeping habitat )

I absolutely love camping. I grew up camping with my parents every weekend. We had the type of camper that fits in the bed of a pickup truck. We belonged to a club and went all over the states. My girlfriend and I now have a tent that we use and try to get out as much as we can. I hope you get good weather for your trip. Have a great time and take lots of pics.
Mark By the way, my girlfriends family was one that went camping with us. We've been camping together since we were about 8 or 9 years old. That was a looonnggg time ago.
