I let my family, though they don't seem inclined to want to mess with it, and one friend I trust completely (she's much better than I, and has serious gear herself - moreso than mine).

As for a stranger? And drunk? My response for that kind of stuff is: "No thanks" with a smile. And I generally don't tend to get people who try to push it beyond that.

Guitars? That's another story, as long as I'm there and they don't try a "Pete Townshend guitar-smash" move.

Strangers... no way in hell.... Friends/family fine but they must put the camera strap on first.

Anyways very few people ask to borrow/use my camera. I think they find it intimidating.

We were recently on a family trip, and took a ferry ride across a river. There was a Japenese tourist with a nice Nikon set up who was taking photos (not snapshots) and who was spending time composing before pressing the shutter. Given that specific situation (he was on a ferry and the river had huge chunks of ice in it - how far could he go?), I did ask him to use my Nikon to take a family photo. He was happy to oblige, and we got a very nice photo as a result.

But in any other situation, just my family gets to lay hands on it.

He could accidentally drop it into the river....

I have let strangers take pictures of me an my wife. Usually though it's a person that has a SLR or DSLR of their own with them. And I'll approach them not the other way around. Other than that no. I trust my Wife with the camera but that's about it. I take better pictures than most everyone in my family so they have no need to use my camera. I also have a remote so that I can take pictures of me and my wife together if I want as well. I actually just took some while we were in Pine Valley, Utah last week and I have taken our Christmas card pictures for the last 3 years.

umm i would never ever ever let some stranger hold it or do anything with it.

as a matter of fact i wouldnt even let my family or friends use it. i let my husband use it ONCE and never again. he put the front lens cap on and forgot to put the rear cap back on the lens after dismanteling it after i've told him that the back one is more important then the front one. i think he hears my words backwards
