Default How to gain more exposure on flickr?

I've commented on well over 100 photographs today. That seems to bring in a lot of people.

Of course having nicely edited photos helps a lot as well.

my stream is: Flickr: Brent Gambrell's Photostream and I think I have a pretty good portfolio on there. I'm easy to talk to and connect with. I think a lot of my work is very marketable. What gives?

Would anyone know how I could get my foot in the door just a little bit more dealing with flickr?

Hi Brent,

I have been on flickr for two years and sometimes the comments come, and sometimes they don't. I think you do wonderful work, and wow you are still so young! Don't base the quality of your work on how many comments you get (or don't get.)

BTW, I am in Kentucky too (Louisville)

I once got stranded in Middlesborough. My water hose busted, and we were stuck in a parking lot at Cumberland Gap park. Not the easiest place to get a cell signal, or for the tow truck to find us. I had to be towed nearly 3 hrs all the way back to Louisville......that was HUGE towing bill.

Never been to Louisville!

Cumberland Gap park is absolutely wonderful! It's where I mostly go for all my woodsy photos!

Join groups, get active in discussions. That should get your name out there.

Tag them or join lots of groups and enter your photos into their pools

I see by your stream, that you already have a commendable following. It depends on what you are trying to acheive. Are you looking for the holy grail of Explore, or are just wanting to sell images? From my limited experience on flickr, selling from there is tough, unless your images are wayyyy different from the millions on there already. The ones I have noticed that gain the most exposure are the folks that offer tutorials on their images. The strobist groups and such. I don't know if this is the way you want to go, but it seems like that is the way to go there. After all, flickr's members are mostly photographers already.

If you've visited Flickr's help pages you might have come across
Quote:
Lú's cut-and-paste advice to people looking to escape the obscurity of "Everyone's Photos"
Which is:
Quote:
If you want people to see and respond to your photographs, you'll want to get your photos -- and yourself -- "out there":

- use descriptive tags, to make your photos searchable; some people also tag in different languages
- join groups where your photos would fit well, and add your photos to the group pools (be sure to understand each group's rules first!)
- if you're looking for critique and advice, search groups for "critique" for the right places for that
- participate in group discussion
- add people whose work you'd like to keep up with as contacts
- comment on other people's photographs
