Very sad news - there's a person (and a great voice) that'll be sorely missed..

How sad. Never even heard of him mind. The only member of Black Sabbath I know is Ozzy Osborne. My husband is a rock fan so I'm sure he knows who he is. The greatest B S song ever written was Paranoid.

In our previous lives before kids we used to have people round for dinner and I would send hubby off to put on some music - something mellow and he'd stick on either Black Sabbath, ACDC, White Snake etc and the rest of us would be thinking WTH?

I know you have heard songs like, Holy Diver, and Rainbow in the Dark?
Your husband sounds like a man I could have very much in common with! lol! Except Whitesnake. I never got in to them much.

Heard this on the radio yesterday. I didn't know his music very well, but some people I know got to do a show with him and said he was fantastic.

Paranoid's an absolute classic song, although I reckon my favourite BS song would be a tough call between The Wizard and Fairies Wear Boots - I guess I'm just quirky that way. Or maybe the actual Black Sabbath song, that's a corker, with that beautiful slow and sinister 3-note opening riff...

Tis indeed sad. My favourite Sabbs Albums are Heaven and Hell and The Mob Rules which this great vocalist sang on. I always much preferred his voice to Ozzy's. His work with Rainbow is worthy of note too.

I think it was about 1983ish, I managed to hit him on the bonce with an empty plastic 'Taunton Cider' keg shaped bottle, at Donnington Monsters of Rock festival, just after his Holy Diver album was released. It bounced up into the air and he caught it before complaining to the crowd that we never threw them full. Happy Days. (Throwing stuff at the bands was expected at Donnington in the 80's, I think they'd have felt bad if no one had bothered. He was on right after Twisted Sister, so there wasn't a lot of ammo left.)

Always very sad when someone who has given you so much motivation and pleasure throughout your life, passes away. Always seemed to be a really nice guy too.

Sad news indeed. I never got into the whole "Who's the better Black Sabbath singer?" debate. They all had their merits as far as I was concerned.

'Holy Diver', 'Rainbow in the Dark', and 'Mob Rules' would be favs of mine.

Sad news indeed, stomach cancer is no way to go

\m/

It's been a sad time for metal lately. Pete Steele of Type O Negative and The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold have also died fairly recently.

Boy, I am outta touch. Didn't know Pete Steele left us Knew about The Rev though. I was really getting in to Avenged Sevenfold too!

I think Planet Caravan was/is still my favorite BS song. Holy Diver still gives me chill bumps. I even love what Killswitch Engage did with it!

Think what you will about Metallica, but they really turned me on to the NWBHM,and when James Hetfield decides to leave this place, I think I will take a day off from work!
I still miss Cliff Burton though!

Keep the stories coming. I love to read them!
