Default Anyone taken courses?

I am thinking of taking a photography course. However, because of where I live I haven't heard of any good local courses. I have only heard bad reviews of every local one available. Soooooo... I am looking into NYIP, I think I remember someone on here mentioning that they are learning a lot from them. Its online/mail and at your own pace. What do you guys think? Has anyone else had any experience with them? OR has anyone taken another online/mail course that they love? Thanks!

i had a friend of mine take the at home courses from NYIP and she let me borrow all the literature last year...personally i was not impressed, i read a lot of articles online and in magazines and found my self taught methods were way more informal than there lessons. there was a lot of information in there course but i apparently knew 90% of what was in it. so unless it has changed from 2 years ago i would find out EXACTLY what your getting before you pay a lot of $.

Yeah I had looked at NYIP because they have a money back trial period. so you can see the whole unit and decide if you want to keep it. The hesitation that I have is that in their material it says you don't have to have a DSLR. So that made me wonder what we would be learning since I don't think you can control the camera settings in a P&S. I could be wrong though?

Some P&S cameras will give you almost as much exposure and flash control as a SLR. The only thing you can't do is stick a fast tele lens on it to get those beautiful shallow DOF photographs.

Hi,

I'm doing the NYIP course now. I'm on lesson 4 of 16. So far I'm finding it very useful. I took a photography course through the city (London, Ontario), and everything I learned in that course was covered in the first couple of NYIP lessons.

The books/lessons are great, and you get the audio CDs and DVDs as well, which I like. I'd definitely recommend the course. I ended up getting $100 off the price plus a couple of free photography books, so make sure you don't pay full price!

If you have any other questions about the course, let me know!

Jen

Call your local Community (Junior) College, Adult Education program, or local arts organization. They might have just what you are looking for at a very reasonable price.

thanks for the replies! I am going to look into it more I guess. I know the course has a money back trial so we will see!

I did check into the courses around here, I live near Jacksonville State University, but haven't heard any one that has been though it say it was good. LOL They all have said it was a waste of time learning stuff that everyone knows.
