Default OIL SPILL photos

Does anyone have photos of the oil spill? If so, can you share them?

I see it on the tv, but personal photos bring it more to home.

Check out this series. Near the bottom of the page are images of the rig burning, and sinking.

There are also a lot of links about the "truth" of the oil spill.

Wasn't there some sort of foam to suck up all the oil from sea? I remember watching a show on science channel about it.

Looks like there was no contingency planning for this kind of disaster! Law Suites here we come!

Horrific!

Since humanity is a crisis species that only responds after the fact instead of preparing for the worst case scenario, this should be a real wakeup-call; until the next time. . .

We never seem to learn!

Every oil rig should be equiped for a HUGE disaster. I mean aren't there federal laws about cleanup materials being located in strategic locations (like on the oil rigs) so that they can have a more rapid response? staging of emergency cleanup gear should NOT be an issue. This stuff is what makes disasters into non issues. I know that Alaska has contingencies in place, but I guess that BP didn't have to abide by those laws in the gulf... this is terrible.

There is no possible way to absorb the oil at the rate is coming out.

Burning it seems useless, not only is the ocean already oil filled, but now you have to deal with air pollution from the burn.

I don't see a good ending to this.

This link isn't very promising.

Default Environmental disaster?

It certainly well may be an environmental disaster, certainly for the short term. Coastal wildlife and raparian flora will be destroyed. But like the Exxon Valdez oil spill, in ten years no one will know it happened.
Naturally occuring organisms will almost immediately start eating the oil, converting it into carbon dioxide and water with nitrogenous fertilizer as a reside.

As an environmental professional, it amazes me how Nature can repair its self so quickly and efficiently and continues to do so despite the abuse we dish out to our planet.

Then again nature can dish out a bit of punnishment her self when she wants as well. We don't get a look in when it comes to cyclones, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

Cheers,

John W

There's also a set of photos at the Boston Big Picture photo blog:

Oil spill approaches Louisiana coast - The Big Picture - Boston.com

From all the forecast maps I've seen, I doesn't look like it'll come ashore on the MS coast, but one of the coastal cities have already seen an increase in dead animals washing up on their beach this past week. Guess my dad will have to find something to do besides fishing off the piers in Biloxi and Gulfport.

And to think that the Fed's had a plan to put into place for this exact scenario and yet again they failed us! I pray for those affected...
