*Sigh*
My Nikkor 55-200mm lens has been my best friend and pretty much the Only Lens attached to my Nikon D5000 since I got it back in February. I also got the 18-55mm lens with the kit. Anyway ... Today, I went to use my 55-200mm as I was going to shoot kids at their school carnival. As I started using it, I noticed a greenish haze in the top left corner of my view finder. I thought it was just a smudge, so stopped to clean the lens. I turned it toward me and heard a clanking sound. When I finally looked at it, I was devistated. The glass of the lens was not attached, it was sliding around. Thank Goodness I got the 4 year warranty when I bought the camera and lenses. Off to Best Buy (where I purchased it) I raced. It is being sent in to be fixed. The description on the service order says the glass has come disconnected and is free floating within the lens.I will hopefully have it back in 2-3 weeks. Now, it is time for my 18-55mm and I to get better acquainted. I can only hope we become as good of friends as the 55-200mm and I are. Just had to share my disappointment of the day. How have you all dealt with the injury of a lens?

Sorry to hear about your disappointment! Hopefully it only happens to the lenses I have duplicates or backup units.

Wow, sorry to hear that. My 55-200 is definitely my lens of choice for any and all outdoor photography. The 18-55 is killer for landscapes though!
