Hi Laurie -
If you think your images are worth something you and don't want anyone using them without your permission, you absolutely should watermark them. If you don't care what happens to them after you post them out there, don't worry about watermarking. I personally have not watermarked any of mine - but that's because I don't feel anyone's going to think they are good enough to be used for something. My wife watermarks all her cake pics with her name because she does not want them being used elsewhere. She uses paint.net to do it. OT - I don't think there are too many on this forum from Sri Lanka. what part of Colombo do you live in?

Are there others from Sri Lanka here? I haven't run across anyone that I can think of. Not that I'm from here exactly, I just live here.
We live in the Nugegoda area. Close enough to the city and shopping, but far enough out that we have neighborhood purple faced langurs (monkeys that go swinging in the trees) and dozens of bird varieties along with the monitor lizards, chameleons, and so on. For me, the idea of watermarking is about having my name on it when it's stolen (because we all know that's going to happen). And giving people a way to find me if they want to see more. I've been toying with the idea of signing the photos with my name and having a link to my site just below that. Haven't decided yet... |

On my proofing site, I use an overlay applied by the site itself.
Most of my photos have my signature on them which could very easily be turned into a watermark by adjusting opacity of the layer it is on. I used to watermark more heavily, and still will occasionally. This is what my "normal" prints and digital images look like:

So, is there a special program that you all use to watermark your pics? Not that any of mine are that great as Im just learning still with my camera but I find even on ebay when I sell things like snowmobiles, pickups and bigger stuff that I have found others taking my pics and puttin them up forsale on there site without even the item so Im thinkin to do a simple watermark of something but tryin to figure out where and how to go about it.
I have adobe photoshop elements 8 a& Premier 8. or any other suggestions greatly apprecatied. I luv that smaller signature.. Thanks from ND!

I use photo watermark professional very easy to use, and soooooo many variations to choose from.
Heres one to show ya. It took about 2 sec. to make it. Yes, I could spent more time to make it beter, but this is just an example, lol.

There are lots of "special programs" as well as plugins for the various popular photo programs.
CS5 now has a watermarking panel built in. Check out my post about it from yesterday. I'd link, but I'm in a hurry to get to a shoot this AM. |

I think I am going to have to folow suite. I am alos thinking of designing a watermark / signature to put on my sale images. I get lots of hits to my site from people who have purchased one of my photos, looking for others and I think it could be a valuable marketing strategy
