Default 2 questions?????????

1) How do I know when someone has commented on a post that I have made? Is there an email notification that you can set up?

2) I am looking at the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens for sports/action shots. Do I need to worry about Image Stabilization for that type of shot? The Image Stabilizer is mainly for like Portrait shots for instance correct?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

1) when you make a reply, use the full-on reply function. There's a drop-down box there available for the thread.

2) Image Stabilization helps remove blur from stationary objects, but not from moving ones. That being said, it's nice to have the stabilizer on longer lenses to stabilize the viewfinder.

I'm not aware of an email notification you can set up but if you click on your user name on the middle right of the top of the page then click on statistics then you can see all the threads you started (and the comments made on them) and all the threads that you commented on.
As far as the lens goes, image stabilization is to help combat blur due to shaky hands. camera shake is amplified when using a longer lens as well. it is also a concern when shooting at slower shutter speeds. when shooting portraiture in a studio you would be using a tripod anyway so you don't need it there but candid, hand held shots would surely benefit from IS. hope that helps! peace

For sports, you are going to be shooting above 1/200 anyway so IS won't really come into play.

Yes. Use the User CP link, and under Settings & Options, click on Edit Optiions. From there, under Default Thread Subscription Mode, you can set it to send you email notifications if you want.

By default, I believe you end up subscribing to every thread you reply to, so all you have to do is click on User CP to see all the threads that you've posted in that have been updated since your last visit.

Stabilization is so that you can use lower shutter speeds without introducing camera shake blur. With longer lenses, the usual shutter speed (unstabilized) limit is 1/focal_length. So, with a 200mm lens, stabilization becomes critical for any shutter speeds slower than 1/200s. If you're shooting faster than that, you don't need it. If you're shooting slower than that, you do. As Jim Poor said, if you're shooting sports/fast action, you probably don't need it, as your shutter speed is likely to be higher.

Click on "thread tools" above the first post and select subscribe. If your user CP is set up correctly you will get an email notification when someone replies.
