Exclamation I don't want to delete, what to do?

I hope someone here can help me.

I was already running out of space on my computer and now that I'm shooting in raw I only have like 20 MB of space left.
Wondering what you guys do for storage space. I only have a laptop so...... don't know how (or if) that limits me.
I really need to sort this out FAST, help!!

Thanks!

Obvious solution: get a bigger hard drive for your laptop.

I use a MacBook, and I've swapped the hard drive twice, now, since I was running out of space. I have an external housing, and use CarbonCopyCloner to copy my internal hard drive to the new (bigger one), and then I do a hardware swap.

Other folks use external hard drives.

My suggestion would be a portable hard drive. I have the same problem with my laptop and am just about to purchase one... it also means I'll have everything backed up so god forbid if I lose everything on my computer I still have the hard drive =)

No problems! =)

Price depends on how much space you want. Here in Australia I can get 1000gb of space for $139au so it'll be a little cheaper for you over there!
That way you can not only clean out all your old images to the external hard drive and free up space on your laptop for all your new images, but back up everything as well =)

You can get an external terabyte for about $120. Just take a ride to bestbuy and go to the computer section. They have them ranging from one's that are stationary to portable. The portable drives cost a little more but are well worth it.

Also, you might want to look into having your images backed up online. There are some websites that charge something like 5 bucks a months and you have unlimited storage that you can access from anywhere.

Either way, start backing up everything to disc as well. I've had the misfortune of having an external crash on me and I lost something to the tune of 6000 pictures that I took during my 3 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan

I bought an external portable, for me this is a suitable solution for extra space since there are no additional power supply required to power the device. Probably the best solution in your case as well seeing how you have a laptop. It's completely run off the USB power. I got mine for $89 here's the one I got: 500Gb Seagate on Amazon

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Thanks Tony, super helpful! Approx. how many RAW photos can you store with 500 GB? Or do you store JPEGs?
