Default Bad Eyesight

I have been working at photography for the last two to three years and i have evolved and have gotten better and better. One snafu i seem to encounter is that a percentage of my photographs are out of focus (especially when i use MF). I always use my right eye when focusing and unfortunately I have a bad astigmatism and a small scar on at that eye. (the scar doesn't affect my vision on a everyday basis that I am aware of). Does anyone have any knowledge that my astigmatism could be causing my photographs to come out blurry? I do wear corrective glasses/ contacts, but they can't correct 100%. Anyone with experience with this or advice would be greatly appreciated. I would like a better percentage of my photos to be in focus. Thanks

HW

An astigmatism shouldn't be the cause. It has no affect on actual "focus" it just causes straight lines to appear curved. I have astigmatism in both eyes as well. I'm right handed but use my left eye for focusing, you could try that and see if it makes any difference.

You might have to play with your diopter. I'm also super-nearsighted and I had to adjust my diopter to get my viewfinder in focus.

Beyond that, you're probably just struggling with manual focus like the rest of us

Some example shots with exif would help with the "diagnosis"

My eyes aren't great, but between glasses and the diopter I do OK. Does your Canon have a focus light? Nikons all have a little thing in the viewfinder that tells you if the object in the current AF field is focused, and if not, which direction it's off.

Thanks for the replys:

I will try to get some examples up this weekend. My canon has a focus light, the only time I have issues with AF is when I'm doing action shots such as sports in lower light. My camera is at home... so i will check the diopter setting. Lastly, my eye sight is worse with my contacts than it is with glasses. I will start taking more photos with my glasses on instead of contacts. Thanks again!
