My heart is deciding between two lovers, a hot piece of glass or the light of my life. That hot little piece of glass (Oly 14-54mm) is fast, smooth and fun. The light of my life (Metz 48) will brighten even the darkest days. How my heart yearns for both, but I can only chose one. I have very little experience in these particular matters of the heart. I come before you as a torn individual, knowing that many of you have been where I am now. Please help my heart choose for my greatest fear in such a struggle is choosing one that will only leave me longing for the other!

Instead of a Metz 48 maybe a Bower SFD926O and the 14-54 will fit into your budget. I have the Bower flash ($100 bill cheaper than the Metz) and it works great with my e-520.

I would go with the flash since you already have a 14-42

The 14-42 is the kit lens (as is my 40-150). From everything I've read and heard, the 14-54 is AMAZING, and much better quality than the kit. However, at the moment, I'm truly leaning towards the flash. Thanks for the input.

The love you feel for each is returned by both. Rest assured that they long to be yours even if you have to be shared. Introduce them and explain to them how much you need them. Having these two lovers combining their abilities will dispel the darkness and sharpen your ability to focus on the pleasures you find together.

Nice glass is, well, nice. But a new flash is epic.
Take the new Weekly Assignment: Film Noir. This assignment will be so much easier with an external flash, and offer way more possibilities. A flash opens up whole new worlds, and makes you really start to think about lighting. |

One more question about a flash...do you recommend a bracket with cord OR should a diffuser do the trick (and if diffuser, Gary Fong or stofen). I generally do outdoor family portraits, and portraits of children.
