Question Why do you take pictures?

What does it mean to be a photographer? What is the inspriation, what is your drive? Do you do it for money? Do you do it because it's fun? If you never got paid for any photographs would you continue being a photographer?

To me, photographing ANYTHING is fun. Specifically because it creates a challenge for me. I have a very creative mind, but sometimes that creativity cannot channel through my body in the exact way I intended it to. I really enjoy manipulating light whether it's through aperture, shutter speed, relecting/refracting.... To me, being a photographer is sort of like being a scientist, always searching for the newer/easier ways of capturing light. Do I get paid for it? Yeah, sometimes. Is it alot of money? Not even remotely. But I really do enjoy whatever I shoot. Try going to a zoo with a camera, you'll notice much more personality through a lens than without.

I do it because the act of taking a photo is very simple, but creating a well composed image that grabs attention is very challenging. It's kind of like golf for me. The one good shot you make keeps you coming back for more.

'Cause I love it! Is there anything else to say?

Yup, it pays, but that's not why I do it!

Why do you take pictures?

To justify my addiction to photo gear!

Really....I can't imagine NOT taking pictures.
It would be easier to answer "why do you breathe?"
