Default New here and to DSLR's

Well, Ive been scanning forums and researching minor things on camera's for my budget. I know a few people with the D3000 and they seem very happy with the out come. So Monday i decided to make the jump into "Unknown" territory and purchase a Nikon D5000 with a 18-55mm Lens. This is my first DSLR camera, and am excited to learn and experience a new hobby. Hopefully i will and can learn alot from all of you.

Nature and people are points of interest when it comes to pictures. Not modeling people but just a natural feel, along with ocean and mountain views (i lack the distance lens i would like, but thats what saving money is for )

I hope to get to know most of you and learn from you, Any tips on how to get started and adjust to my new camera is gladly appreciated

welcome. Read the manual, and go out and take pictures, trying different settings to see what happens. There are lots of tips and tutorials available on this site. If you get stuck with something, ask. Douglas

Welcome! I agree with Douglas, read the manual and then go out and press buttons. Then look at the picture you just took. Then press different buttons. Then look at that picture and figure out which one you like best. Repeat for however many years it takes until you know which button to press, or dial to turn, in the right direction to get the shot that you want. Like Douglas said, if you get frustrated or stuck while learning, feel free to ask. There are lots of people on this forum with tons of knowledge who are happy to share their knowledge with the rest of us. Have fun with your new camera!

Welcome

Practice makes perfect! Start off with the manual, and the golden triangle, then take it from there.
