I've been asked to do my second set of portraits. The first was a family with young children who decided the self-timer method wasn't working. After warning them about my experience level, I did a reasonably good job and got "paid" a bag of oranges and a movie ticket gift card. My pending portraits job is for a 1st grader whose yearbook photographer said, "Give me your best face" right before taking the shot, resulting in a great dinosaur snarl preserved for posterity. His mother (one of my best friends) requested I do a reshoot. Now that Spring is blossoming, we're going to try for an outdoor setup.
My question is, does anyone have pose suggestions or know of a site or book with examples? As a beginning, I've read many books about how to set up a pose (think triangles, etc.) but I have a hard time turning the tips into actual arranging of limbs or groups of people. As a visual person, I think it would help to see several different poses and imitate them until I can get a better feel for it and start to build my own repertoire. (I hope to do well enough this time around to score a whole Sunday dinner. )
