Is it too much to ask that a group of grown adults taking photos for a long LONG time discussing each shot, discussing appropriate camera settings and correct lens usage, at a public zoo not occupy the only viewing platform from which small people - otherwise known as children - can see a particular animal from for a ridiculous amount of time?

Am i too polite at the zoo in so far as if im in the way of a child or a group of children i'll move out the way and let them through and give up on that shot or group of shots?

Is there a right or wrong in these sort of situations? How do you deal with them?

I don't know the right answer. There will always be a few such stupid people around. I think I would politely ask them if they would make a little room for other people.(Especially for children and short people like me!)

I suppose as the photographer I see the following options:

A. Tell the kid, if you climb over the fence right "there" you can get a real good view of the Tigers.

B. Hand the kid my business card and tell him "Show this to your parents when you get home and beg them to buy you pictures of the animals you missed seeing from the viewing platform 'cause all those people were in the way.

C. Ignore the kid while he/she stares at the back of my t-shirt that reads "I Shoot Animals!"

D. I could back up and tell the kid to "go ahead and have my spot" just as another stupid person steps up and takes my spot before he gets in.

LOL, sorry. Just trying to add a bit of levity. I can certainly see where you are coming from. For circumstances like that we as photographers need to take our turn and move on. Came back later if you feel you didn't get the shot you wanted.

I should say, if you hadn't guessed from my OP, that myself and my daughter were on the receiving end of some over enthusiastic, selfish, photographers today. She was not a happy bunny!!

Poor girl, I just hate people like that. I would never get in the way of a kid at the zoo, or anywhere else for that matter. The photographers can come back any day, the kid can only go when her parents have time. Did you ask the photographers to move?

My humblest appologies, Begm, for my insensitive reply. I read it as a general observation and not a personal experience. My wife tells me all the time most people don't get me sense of humor.

I hope your little ones got their chance before you left.

No need to apologise, i threw it out as a general observation and expect it to be treated as such.

I found your post very amusing in all honesty

I was tempted to tell her to climb over the enclosure towards the tigers at one point today though (around the time when the "im tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeed i waaaaaaaaaaaaaant iiiiiceeeee creeeeeeaaaaaam" whinge began coincidently....)

Perhaps in a firm and excited tone you may want to say, " That's AMAZING! Look at what the "fill in the blank" are doing!" While pointing to a far away area.
And be sure to explain to your little darling what you just did so she, too, can handle the rude ones.
