Default US to Scotland trip...

I've never travel out of the country and not sure how much equipment I should take with me. I have a Lowepro back pack so lots of room, within reason anyway. Will be gone for a week with my brothers and Dad for Dad's 80 Birthday. I want to travel light but done want o leave too much behind either. Anyone with suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Will be traveling end of June into July.
Thx!

Okay, better let you know what i have:
10-20mm
18-55mm IS
18-270mm IS
in process of buying a 50mm prime
40D body
580 flash
remotes
Mannfroto Tripod/ball head
Battery chargers
Laptop
CF cards (4)
Flash drives
Should I take a backup body? I have an XTi too...

Seems you have it all covered but make room for warm clothing maps and uhmmmmmmm maybe a portable sun....... yup we get RAIN RAIN RAIN so just to let you know moody landscapes maybe the order of the day ..... nice filter set and uhmmmmm clothes weather gear etc .... seems all you taking is camera gear lol .... clean undies in case you come a cropper (not the picture type) and oh yeah laptop so you can share while your there lol..

Uhm just re-read the list ??? That is light ? seems ott maybe one body lots of memeory the wide angle a prime and Tele would be better. Flash if your planning late night outings but filters probably best as dusk more likely...

I have no problem with rain, I'm from Oregon before Iowa, where it rains 6-7 months of the year...

So, for lenses I should just take the prime and the 18-270mm?
It will lighten the weight some.
How about a tripod? I travel around the US with one but not sure I will really use one on this trip.
I need to look for a power converter too I think...

FYI we will be flying into Edinburgh Friday June 25.
Maybe meet for a beer some evening?

Tim

You should be OK with just a plug adaptor rather than a transformer. If you check the underside of your chargers if they accept input at 230V at 50Hz you can run it without a transformer.

I'd take the 18-270, prime and 10-20. If you like landscapes you'll cry if you don't take your ultrawide lens! Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world, regardless of its weather.

If it's anything like Oregon, I may not return home...
I was thinking about leaving the ultra wide but your are right, I do need to take it.

I'll still need something for my laptop so the search begins!

Hehe! Yes, I'm sure you'll feel that way on some level. I'm English, but Scotland is a very special place for me. I'm a landscape lover, & never go anywhere without my ultrawide. I have a great tripod, but never take it on any trip that involves a plane - I can survive without it easily - I do have a Gorillapod though and sometimes take that, it packs easily, so that may be an alternative for you if you really hate leaving home without your tripod.

Us Brits are spoilt. The whole of the UK is stunning in its own way.

You bring up a good point. my Tripod. I do usually travel with it. I guess I could survive with out is as I'll be with family and want to have some fun along the way instead of only focusing on photographing.

Another question: Should I shoot in raw and high resolution or just one or the other? I'm thinking both so I can really do some good editing when I get back home..
