Default New York Institute of Photography (NYIP)

Hello!

I have seen previous threads on this forum saying that taking photography classes is a waste of time and money as most people feel that the internet is the best resource to learn. However, I have been slightly interested in taking the photography course from NYIP and I was wondering if anybody here has taken or knows someone who has take this course before.

NYIP - Photography | Photography School | New York Institute of Photography | NYIP

Any help or advice in this topic would be greatly appreciated. It looks to be a great course, but it costs around $800-900 and I want to make sure that it is definitely worth the money before I enroll in the course.

First, I do not want this reply to sound like I am bashing NYIP. I ordered the first part of the course and received it in the mail. I began to read the books, and listen to the CD's that were sent. For the beginning portion, all of that information and so much more has been presented here in this site and forum. As you can see by my join date, I am new here and have already found so much more information. What I personally did not like about the materials that I received were the CD's. I had hoped for a more structured learning environment. It was more like a few friends sitting on the couch talking with each other than teaching. Like I said, this is a personal thing. I just need more structure to learn. For the price, I would rather take a day or weekend workshop. Being able to have the personal interaction would be beneficial for me. I did not choose to progress with the rest of the course. For some, this might be exactly what they are looking for. As for me it was not. Hope this helps a little for you.

AS in ALL classes, even university classes, there are a couple of goals. First being to give one a BASIC understanding of the subject. To get more in-depth information requires extra work. To facilitate this extra work the class teach you the lingo so you can communicate with those of like mind. Third they present material in an ordered manner to allow easier comprehension by one idea logically building upon the previous idea.

They also contribute to ones personal development by first putting the student in direct competition with other students in a controlled situation, increasing ones competitive shills. They also show, upon completion of the course, that one has the drive to complete an assignment although it might be a disagreeable assignment.

Have you ever thought about taking a photography class/classes at a Community College, there you have the advantage better personal interaction between instructor and other students? (Not to mention usually cheaper. I like these better because they also introduce a more rigid time schedule.
