Default What got you into Photography?

Hello!

I've just joined the forum and have also very recently just came across a fondness for Photography. It started for me whilst on holiday in New York, I had a digital camera for a while but had never properly used it until on holiday. I found that I got much enjoyment of snapping the different landmarks of NYC and was wanting to continue this as a hobby.

I am a complete amateur and learning about different aspects of Photography, will be interesting to see where it takes me.

Just wanted to know thoughts of how other people started to get into Photography?

Welcome to DPS, I'm pretty new too and so far everyone has been very good to me. I've learned a lot from these people!

Hmmm, what got me started with photography. I can't really remember exactly who or got me interested in photography. I started taking pics when I was about 10 and for the past 4 years I have sold my photography in the form of large framed photos, greeting cards and hopefully calendars this year (if I can find a printer that's not in China).

Well, that's my story, good luck with yours!

My dad was into it and he let me use his cameras. So when I started work in 1960 a camera followed soon after. When I discovered motor cycles, girls & sailing I gave it away, except for family snaps etc, for about 30 years and only got really back into it when I retired in 2003.

What? Did I miss something? Do you make pens and take pictures of them or am I just dumb?

No not dumb, I make custom wood and acrylic pens. Wanted to take better pics of them then those above which were taken with a p&s, but haven't made one in over two months now.

Good, I'm not dumb, I've been feeling very dumb lately. Cool pens by the way.

I think I was inspired by seeing various shots on the web, but I don't remember one single source. I think, however, that I found this website and read a lot of articles before I bought my first camera. So, thanks dPS!

"Stuff"

Before you say, "wow Eric, what a lame answer"...

"things" also got me into photography.

PS - And a small truck load (perhaps an S10) of cash.

Hi & welcome! I got into photography about 20 years ago when I was at University in Scotland - a couple of friends there who were brothers were excellent photographers, very much into SLR & doing their own film processing even. I'd go out on fun photo shoots with them & they taught me the basics and I just got hooked. They actually bought me my first SLR as a gift, along with a couple of lenses and a tripod! Awesome gift, fabulous friends! I'm still having fun with photos, it's the perfect stress release for me.
