Default Amazing wildlife photos...

I did a search, couldn't find this posted anywhere, so here it is. I dunno if the guy's that dedicated or just plain nuts, but it's tough to argue the results IMO.

Photographer captures amazing images of lions at watering hole after submerging himself for three months | Mail Online

Sittin in a dank waterhole in Africa for 270 hours???

I have known for some time that wildlife photographers have to go to great lengths for some shots but this does seem to be at the far extreme. Nonetheless, you have to admit the results appear to be worth it. Wonder what he got paid?
Oh, and is it just me or do the cats have a look that say, "I've had something to drink, now all I need is something to eat."

Well the pictures certainly are impressive. But worth risking your life for???!!

Some people are nuts! (But with great talent comes a level of insanity right?!)

Read the details though - he didn't actually submerge himself in the watering hole for three months straight, he did it for three hours a day, every day.

By the headline's token (and let's not forget that it's in the Daily Mail), I've spent nearly 150 days in the toilet working on producing the perfect poo. That's very nearly FIVE MONTHS! FIVE MONTHS IN THE TOILET!

To be fair to Mr du Toit though, those picture ARE brilliant...

You guys over in the UK are doing it wrong...here in the US, we sit above the water working on producing our perfect poo. Course...maybe that's why ours isn't perfect yet? I'm not that familiar with the Daily Mail, so can't give/take any credit on them...I'm assuming it's not a highly thought-of news source?

One way to look at the Daily Wail is that it may very well help you on your quest for the perfect poo. Toilet paper is what it is.

I really like that this is a forum where a thread can move from wildlife photography to poo with such great ease.

Thanks for sharing the link, those shots are amazing. I wouldn't do what he did, but definitely appreciate his dedication and results.

To be fair...there was likely a large amount of poo in that water

Aha, this could possibly be one of those delightful cultural things where our language differs. Here in the UK we regularly refer to what you in the US call the Bathroom, Jon, Restroom etc as the Toilet. Of course, we also refer to it as the Bathroom, but in English English it's a matter of context.

For example:

"I was in the bathroom this morning and I had an amazing idea!" = "I was washing my hands/washing my face/just getting into (or out of) the shower/cleaning the windows/etc this morning when I had an amazing idea!"

whereas

"I was in the toilet this morning and I had an amazing idea!" = "I was in the bathroom this morning, using the toilet, and I had an amazing idea!"

But yeah - the pictures he managed to get ARE amazing. I wonder if the warthogs and zebra go there for a drink, and then have a wee into the waterhole before they leave, knowing that the lions are going to drink there later?

There's a pretty good discussion going on over a The Online Photographer right now regarding this story and other issues surrounding wildlife photography. Lot's of things I'd never considered before.
