Best advice on this is to take the lenses for a walk. Try different lenses and zoom setting an note the difference in results. The key is each person developes a style. Different folks use different lenses for the same subject.

There are interesting things to photograph 10 mins from everyones door. If you can't see them you aren't looking hard enough!

As for the lenses the 14-42 is good for landscapes and general use. The 40-150 good for zooming in, picking out detail and shooting things like sports and wildlife.

try getting some close up / macro shots of stuff in your backyard...you'd be surprised at what all you can find... i pretty much spent a couple of days sitting in my balcony clicking the same shots over and over again with different settings and lens till i was pretty much sure of what kind of setting's angles etc would give me what results...refer my signature for examples

Elmo is right. Taking yr lenses for a walk is the best thing you can do when you don`t have too much experience and you are also very excited with what you bought. You`ll soon discover by yourself all you need to know about your lenses just by playing around a bit with them.
