Default How Do You Get Rid Of Smokers Smell In A Camera?

I was asked this question by another photographer who bought a second hand camera from eBay...
I don't know what to advice him. I have heard of vinegar, listerine mouthwash, lemon juice, etc... but not sure about those. I'm just fielding it here, perhaps someone might know the solution. I don't smoke.
Cheers!

You cant basically. If its been stored in a smoky environment the smell comes from tiny particles of tar that build up on its surfaces. You can clean the outside which will get rid of some of the smell, but some will remain. Time will help to some extent but you will never get rid of it completely. Sorry

Not likely to happen. Ive had good luck with leaving things in the sun, but thats not always an option (especially with electronics). Over time the smell will diminish. I know my FE was terrible when I first got it, but it's totally not noticeable now.

You could always try a combination of dryer sheets and silica gel. That's another home-remedy

Polo mints. Every teenager knows they get rid of the smell of smoke

Just air it out like you would clothes?

Try putting it in a large freezer bag with 2 or 3 silica gel bags. Might help a bit.

Silica gel bags or a box of arm and hammer.

Really the only thing for the camera that is going to reduce the smell is time in a smoke free environment. You can clean the outside of the camera but that's about it. Internally there will still be residue.

They could just start smoking. Then they wouldn't be able to smell it. J/K.
Arm and Hammer works wonders! And time! I smoke, therefore I know....

Air movement got the smell in, use it to help get it out.

Put the camera in front of a fan blowing gently on it. Leave it there for a couple of days, 24-7. Keep the lens and lens cap on, though.

That would do nothing besides blow air over the camera body.

Try putting it in a bag with a couple of activated charcoal packs. You can buy em at target. They managed to get rid of smells in my freezer that baking soda couldn't
