Going to school in Salisbury, a constant source of annoyance and occasionally amusement were the tourists.

Commonly we would be asked where abouts the Cathedral was whilst walking to and from school. My school was part of the cathedral grounds, about 200 yards from the cathedrals main door, and you can see the spire from almost everywhere in the town. This kind of question inevitably lead to rather 'interesting' directions being given.

"I want to walk from Perth to Sydney..."

Yeah, you have fun with that.

Ah, Darwinism at it's best.

A woman in Australia asked my father if we had refrigerators in Canada. When asked why she would ask that, she said, "Well can't you just keep everything outside?"

My sister works for an American cruise ship company, and as a result I've been on several lovely free holidays (so far, the Mediterranean, and Scandinavia & Iceland - doing China and South-East Asia later this year). It being an American company, most tours have a majority of American passengers. On the Mediterranean trip, pretty much every excursion I went on would include at least one person who'd ask "Do they take dollars here?", and who'd then be disappointed to find out that they were in Europe, so ,er, no.... And on the way into Athens, someone asked if we'd be able to get any water in Athens. Part of me really wanted the tour guide to say "Oh no, Athens is a dry city. We don't have any water at all. You might find some beer if you're lucky, but otherwise your best bet is to try and lick moisture from leaves.."

(By the way, that isn't a sweeping generalisation that I think all Americans are somehow stupid or annoying - actually, I think I've yet to meet an American I didn't like.)

Russ.

Anybody who has been to Wales in the winter knows that, from a tourist perspective, the answer is pretty much yes, it is closed!

When I worked in Lancaster, PA people would ask if the Amish were hired by the county as a tourist attraction.

One woman went so far as to attempt a police report because they wouldn't cooperate in posing for photographs...

Ugh I hate websites that make you click next 20 times for a top 10 list just so they can shove a few more ads down your throat.

When will companies stop doing this? It's really annoying I don't want to have to use ad block but these people are just making it so I have to just so I can make sense of what the heck is the content is on the site and what's really just an advertisement for something.

The telegraph always pulls this stunt it's old.
