Default Which one has better picture quality?

Hi, I have a nikon d90 and love it. I've been wanting to upgrade to a pro level camera but haven't decided to which camera or if it's the right time to purchase a Nikon camera.

I don't have a good reason to justify upgrading to a new body. I like just like nice things and always the top of the line stuff.

Will the Nikon D300s have a better picture quality then the D90? (I know they have the same sensor but the D300s is 14 bits compare to 12 bit for D90) Should I wait till Nikon come out with a newer model? like D400 or D800?

Youre asking the wrong people. If youre buying for the sake of buying, then buy whatever you want without asking. Doesnt serve much purpose unless youre using it.

That being said, the D300s wont offer you much of a difference. There *are* differences, btu they're minute even to pros. You also may as well go ahead and get one, then get the D400/D800 whenever it comes out.

I dont see why you dont just jump to a D3x/D3s pairing and be done with it, really.

Don't buy a new body yet. You don't need to. Fight the need to buy new stuff, and save the money for better lenses (or maybe a better body), after you've played around enough to understand what sorts of photos you prefer taking, and what sorts of lenses those photos may require.

I'd work on lenses before worrying about upgrading the body, but that's just me. Better glass will last me much longer than any body I may buy. New bodies come out every year (or less it seems sometimes). To me upgrading just to have the latest and greatest seems pointless, but if that's what's important to you, well, that's up to you.

Yeah, I get the urge to want to buy new stuff. After seeing the rebates on lens and camera combo rom Adorama make me want to go buy a new camera and lens. The combo was for a d300s and a 70-200 2.8 vrII minus $400 instant rebate.

Yes, you are right. I buy on impulse most of the time. I think I'd be better off with a 24-70 2.8 instead of a new body.

This is most true.

You're not going to see huge differences by jumping up through crop sensor bodies. You cna get more megapixels and better high-ISO performance, but those don't usually justify the cost. If you want a serious step you're looking to go full frame, Nikon D700 or Canon 5DMkII.

Unless you're shooting in RAW and saving as 16 bit TIFF this really won't make a difference to you.

And even then, you won't be able to actually see a difference on your screen, and probably not in your prints. More data is not the same as better practical image quality.
