Dont get me wrong, the winner certainly has a great shot there, but I dont think it fits the assignments description.
Both the coke can and the red bull can, are.... wait for it... cans. Not beverages (or drinks as we would call them this side of the pond) Granted my submission was a long way from winning, but it did actually show the beverage in question, not just its container (as was the remit at the start of the assignment) I applaude those who made the effort to think about how they would show their chosen beverage (and not just its container). I am dismayed by the choices made by the judges for the reasons above. Perhaps I should write 'jump' on a piece of paper and shoot that for this weeks assignment? |

I'm gettin' a bad name on here anyway, so what-the-heck... Although I'm not furious I do agree with you. They are good shots, but they are container/product shots. There were so many photos actually showing the "drinkable beverage" that were quite awesome work.

exactly how I felt. Although im a terrible loser at the best of times I wasnt expecting to come close to winning on my first go.
I feel sorry for the people that went to the trouble of shooting the real deal, which in my opinion is much much more difficult than the 'product placement' shots. I like a lot of people who posted, spent a long time setting up for a shot that wouldnt last forever (mine lasted about 1 1/2 seconds). I shouldnt have wasted my time, just should have gotten a bottle out of the fridge and made it crush some ice while I was at it.

The final week of Food Photography is here and we are on to Beverages. Alcoholic or non, bottles, glasses or mugs, fizzy or plain, hot or cold, as long as it's drinkable. I definitely cant drink an empty can of coke. I feel cheated that 1st and 3rd place went to people whose shots do not fullfill this criteria. this weeks again is quite clear: So this week, "Jump!"** Try to get a picture of someone jumping. It could be a person, animal or a self-portrait, but their feet should be off the ground. How this could possibly be anything other than the above is quite absurd. |

[QUOTE=WooD;921271 If it were me, I'd be thankful for having a place like the assignment thread to boost your imagination for a better shot, and try harder next time.[/QUOTE] If imagination is a can of drink and some ice I really dont need to try harder, its not as if it's never been done before. |
