And if it's a change that specifically relates to the original picture (e.g. crop, colour correction, etc), it's much better to include it in the original thread rather than starting a new thread every time you make changes to the photo based on suggestions.

Personally, I think it is (should be) encouraged. Much more can be learned by "applying" the different approaches sugested by critique as opposed to just "considering"...

Yes - you are encouraged to illustrate the discussion as long as it is still around the topic of the original picture. That could include alternative takes, alternative post-processing or even a later reshoot.

Okay thanks everyone. I would have done this with a few old threads that I posted something for however the threads I'm referring to are pretty old at this point and I don't want to necro bump them.
