Default End of a chapter.

A couple of years ago the fingers started aching, it was arthritis setting in. My playing on the my guitar was less and less. I picked it up yesterday and lasted less than five min. and what I did play sucked. Please note that I'm not looking for sympathy, I can still work and other than that health is just fine. I did play in a couple of bands, So I'm fine. End of a chapter.

Next chapter, photography. My intention this time around was to make a living at it. WHY !!. I have a job that pays good and I make a little money doing it part time. Why would I want the pressure of always trying to find the next photo gig? This year I will be 54 and I'm all about putting a smile on my face now. Photography now is so doggy dog and signing contacts and this and that. Me I'm a guy that still thinks a hand shake is everything.

So what was the purpose of this thread, I have no idea just wanted to share what was on my mind.

I know how you feel.... after 40 my body just does things that I didn't authorize or approve of prior to it happening.

About 5 or 6 years ago I went back to school for the new part of the second half of my life. Now that I am due to graduate with my BS this coming June, I decided about 6 months ago to go full steam and do the photography f/t cuz I was no longer interested in the area of my undergrad degree. So I am out trying to scare up business and applying to grad school for a photo degree. ( Not that I necessarily believe you need that to be in business, when I started back to school it was with the intentions of going til I had my Masters. ) Didn't want to look back in 20 years and say I wish I had.

Just know you are not alone !!! Good Luck with the new business !!

My music and sport days are over. Just nature telling has to relax now. I like to think that from every loss is a gain. It's a blues thing. Write that on a post-it and slap it on the fridge.

There you go. Like I suggested in the PM, an 'Open G' tuning, maybe a slide, have a couple of drinks and have at it. If Keith Richards can still find his guitar you can still play...

I feel for you. I was a musician and a sound man in the early to mid '90's, and I made way more money as a sound man than I ever made as a musician. Fortunately, I don't have arthritis, but some of my other "high risk" activities have a tendency to get my hands hurt. As a consequence, I don't play as much as I used to.

Default I feel your pain!

I feel your pain! I started playing guitar seriously in the early 90's, and got wrapped up more in the theory than actually playing. Then I picked it up again about 3 years ago, and was actually getting somewhere with it, when my left index finger started giving me problems. So I have put it down again. I still pick it up once in a while, but it feels like someone is driving a nail through my fret hand after about 5 minutes.
