Default London

Hey guys,

Can anyone suggest me of place/theme that I can do (and offer the idea to my photography society) around London?

So far, this year, we've been to:

Southbank
Canary Wharf
Camden Market
Brick Lane Market
Trafalgar Square
Chinatown

Spitalfields market and surrounding area
Greenwich is pretty picturesque, as is Richmond and Richmond Park
Regents Canal is great and not a well known part of London either

Covent Garden - loads to do there!
Stratford - go out to the Olympic build site
I did the 'tourist trail' recently and walked the southbank up to parliament, round to trafalgar square, mooched about the portrait gallery before walking down to buckingham palace, over to horse guards, then round and up through westminster (i think thats where i was...i was lost by this point...) and ended up outside Scotland Yard.... before getting on the nearest tube back to Liverpool Street and home lol

Im going to go up to Covent Garden again soon and just sit and watch the street entertainers and get photos.

Highgate cemetary - eeriyl beautiful just as it is, but you can always snap Karl Marx and George Eliots place of rest while you're at it.
Little Venice, around Maida Vale, the canal boats.
Walk around Portobello Market on a saturday, and take pictures of the street market, and then go off the beaten track and take pictures of the houses around Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove.
Ridley Road Market in Dalston, if you want food, veg and grit.
Columbia Road flower market
Borough market
And of course, if you're bringing an ipod, take a v v v long evening exposure of the london eye.

Ah, this is making me homesick now. three years since I left and I guess you can't beat a sunny day in London

Thanks for the info guys.

I forgot to mention that we've been to Highgate Cemetery and Spitalfields (+ Brick Lane) area.

I want to do a night photography too. I should go to Southbank once at night so I can take a good shot of the London Eye with long exposure. Is there any suggestion where I can find a good spot for cool shots of cars running around at night? Of course, I want to go to the safe place!

Bear in mind that you need a really long exposure for this. It takes 40 mins for the wheel to go round once!

You can get some cool shots of busses going over Westminster bridge in front of either the eye of the house of parliment if you want to kill wto birds with one stone. The pavement is really wide so you won't get in peoples way with a tripod. The plod are used to photos being taken here as well so you may not get your collar felt.

Other than that anywhere on a bus route is good as bus light trails are more interesting than car ones due to the height and different colours.

I've found it quite difficult to get an interesting photo of the London Eye at night but it's pretty empty around Westminster in the evening. There's also the houses of parliament & Big Ben but again it's difficult to get a new and interesting perspective. I've also found they turn off the lights soon after midnight so give yourself some time for that.

For light trails try Picadilly Circus - it's fairly busy at night both with people and cars so a good opportunity to show movement. The last time I was there they were doing building works opposite the ad-boards which made getting a good angle difficult but hopefully they've gone by now.

Cemetaries, wise, I'm weird. I like Kensal Green, but it and Kew Gardens are a bit out of the way and past Zone 1 on the tube.

What about Hampstead Heath?
