Default How to store camera?

I have a Pentax k-x and was wondering if I should leave the lens on when I put it in the bag, or should I take it off and put the cap on the body? I have a nice bag that I can adjust how the camera sits in there. Thanks for any help.

I leave my lens on. Makes it slightly harder to fit in the bag at times, but at least then there's always a lens on the camera in case I need to quickly take a shot.

Depends on the length and weight of the lens. A lot of folks recommend not storing a camera with lens attached, ever, beccause of the stress on the mounting ring, but I don't worry about it too much until I start getting into big, heavy lenses.

It depends on where you're going and how long you'll be travelling, too. As Nicole mentioned, it can be a bit akward to get the body+lens into a bag when they're together. When I travel any real distances, the camera body and is seperate with just a body cap on because it fits into the bag better that way.

Thanks everyone. Mainly just wondering for around the house. I figured the less I take the lens off, less of a chance for dirt to get into it.

I keep my gear in a 1560 Pelican case. One D300 with a 17-55 f/2.8 , and a D80 with a 80-200 f/2.8 always attached.

Speaking as someone who lives in a very humid city, I like to do all I can to inhibit the growth of any mould on any of my gear. My old 10D shows sign of a little growth after living for most of the last 7 years in the humidity.

When not being used, I now store all of my gear in 50litre Wonderful Dry Cabinet.

It might be a little over the top, but my home is surrounded by trees which keeps the humidity high, plus it only cost me $350 to protect over $20,000 of gear.

Better safe than sorry in my view.

Check out the SKB cases, I think the are alot of them that are very suitable for keeping large lenses or the camera's itself

SKB: Music Cases, Industrial Cases, Shipping Cases, Sports Cases, Golf Cases
