Default Appreciating other peoples work

Just wondering if you have a room full of people saying how much they love a picture and you take a look at it and can't see what the fuss is about, do you say anything?

Having had a nose about the net for 'famous' pro's and with some im greatly underwhelmed by their work whereas other, lesser known's, im completely blown away by.

Are we too wrapped up in WHO shot the picture rather than the picture itself at times?

Glad it's not just me.

Still....it gives us mortals hope that one day we too can receive a multi-million pound lottery grant to make mud pies

I take a walk around some well known art galleries and look at the "installations" Is it me or is the whole world mad. Talk about the Emperor has no clothes!

Further, I am reminded of one that was entitled 290 bricks (I may have the number wrong!) and I said to my wife "I wonder if the art would be destroyed if I picked one up and took it home"

I completely agree with you! Some pro shots don't look good at all.

As for art:
Obviously if some of these people can splatter paint randomly and sell it for tons of money...I need to become a painter!

I did it a few years ago in a design class. Everybody was going on about how awesome it was and everything while i kept my mouth shut. With nothing good to say, i said nothing. Until the prof asked for my opinion. And I gave it.

I was able to back my opinion up, argue my position and, ultimately, the design was altered.

I agree,, I think a lot of people are afraid to say anything because it might hurt someones feelings, I feel if it looks like doo doo you should be able to state your opinion of it. especially if they ask,, what do you think. I also think that it makes a lot of diff of who you are, but just because Uncle Joe was a great artist or whatever, that doesn't make all his family great. My 2 cents worth.

When asked for my opinion, I try not to be too critical in public, but give constructive comments and tips as to how to better their photography. If they want me to talk to them in private I'll do so.
