Default Is Photography is a male dominated profession

OOOOH contraversial I know and I am probably stirring up a hornets nest starting this thread but please hear me out! Ever since I have started this journey seriously its only ever MEN that seem take the limelight. Its men who are the experts, men who you see as the main paporazzi, men who write all the leading books in the field. I mentioned this to my loving other half and he said "Of course! Thats because they have to ride to their next assignment on motorbikes!" WTF??? I have also noticed that most of the members on this site are MALE! My significant other has also pointed out that in ALL professions its MEN who are the stonger sex!

HA HA stirring the pot nicely and NICELY is the operative word.

Are you having a funny turn or something!!!As far as this site is concerned I had not noticed whether there is a preponderance of males because that did not concern me,.all I know is that the contributors I like and admire include both men and women. As far as riding m'cycles...both my wife and I rode them (Years ago as we are ancient now) what has that to do with anything?
In my own profession, though I am retired now, I worked along side many ladies who were as good as and often better than their male counterparts.
Finally as far as writing books, I suspect that in general the ladies prefer to do things whereas the men like to talk (write) about it.
That being said ...nice thread, I look forward to the posts you will have engendered.

Your husband may be right, candid- and God did create Man first...

I am very tempted to start a thread "Who are the greatest cooks, male or female" in a female dominated website blog (not here on DPS...)....
Still trying to find a female dominated blog somewhere....
Cheers!

Yeah I am having a funny turn ever since seeing a Golliwog for sale in Salisbury today! This thread is meant to be taken in the best possible taste! Remember it's Valentines Day!

Max you are chauvenistic and send LOVE to your poor long suffering wife lol!

My 2c...

Men are more "technically inclined" in general.... That's why they become the "technical experts" more often. Men also generally want to "provide/teach", it's in our nature...thus we feel more compelled to share what we have learned (and spew forth our opinions). Plus, men are generally more accustomed to having to be "pushy"....

Women tend to be more sensitive.... The technicalities do not tend to matter as long as the results "feel right". It's a more "artistic" approach.

However, photography is generally more of a technical art than it is an artistic talent so many areas fall more strongly into a males characteristics.

But, in some areas where "sensitivity" is required and "feeling" is more relevant women are more prominent... (many of the top nude photographers are women).

Of course, these are all very huge generalizations.....And my wife doesn't like to ride her own motorcycle, she would rather be the passenger.....

Well done Eric!

As far as the original question is concerned i can't say as i had noticed. In fact. I can think of as many famous female photographers as i can male ones. I also know of more female photographers in the locale then i do male ones (as in running established businesses).

I have deleted 2 further paragraphs because of sheer flippancy
