Question Help with making a logo in CS2, please

I have googled 'til I can't google anymore and looked at every tutorial out there. I found a custom shape I love as well as two fonts that I want to use. Loaded the shape, loaded the fonts. I made a new document and tried several things including layers/merging/flattening/whatever (been working on this for a few hours) using the custom shape tool and the text tool. I'm trying to figure out how to save the whole document and use it as a watermark (either custom shape or brush). It won't let me save the whole thing - it either saves the text only or the shape only. I'm technologically challenged when it comes to this kind of stuff, if you can help me, please explain it to me like I'm a slow-learning five year old.

Or, if there are any kindhearted souls out there that want to do their good deed for the day and make this logo for me, I can email you the fonts and shape...hint, hint.....

After you have your logo all ready click - edit, define brush and then save the name.

If you want the whole document no need to select anything, if you just want part of it, select the part you want, make sure there is no feathering if you want the image to be tack sharp... Is that what you meant? And I am assuming its the same in cs2 vs cs3...

Tried that - it only saved the shape, without the text.

Yup, tried saving it as a jpg too...only saved the text without the shape. I'm wondering if I need to save the shape I downloaded somewhere else, and not load it as a shape?

Try saving as a PDF (photoshop document) first then you'll be able to save as a jpeg or gif.

Yup, yup and yup.....I'm about ready to pull my hair out. I was able to save the text as a jpg, it wouldn't show the design. Then I tried to just the design as a separate document and it saved as a blank page.

For what it's worth, here's the text:

2010 logo

I found a shape that I love (basically a swirly thing) that I want to put in between the top and bottom text.

Oh...and when I flatten the image, it deletes the shape.
