Default yay!

Hello everyone. I'm new here.
I've been looking in to getting a DSLR and so far, I've returned a $250 video camera, and I expect to have another $400 by the end of this month from work. (I'm a college student, so money doesn't come in so readily )
I was looking into getting a T1i, but it seems like by the time I have enough money for it, the T2i will come out. Thus, I think I'll save up an extra month for the T2.
Right now, my studies and research pertain to using a confocal microscope and photographing things I see and just a few months ago I realized how similar microscopy was to photography. Terms such as aperture, pinhole size, depth of field, etc. are all used in microscopy and I need to describe all that when explaining my micrographs. That's perhaps the biggest push that I got for getting a DSLR. I've been lurking around these forums for the past few months, looking at the awesome images you guys have posted, and I'm motivated even more to get a DSLR camera.
However, what do you guys think about a T2i and the lens that it comes with. Is that a good place to start?

Having not yet been tested, it's very difficult to come to a definite conclusion about the T2i. All the components, however, work independently, so I dont see why it wouldn't be quite good.

Expect pricing to be fairly high though, especially on introduction
