Default Lithium Batteries As Dangerous Goods On Aircraft

This was enacted nationally more than 6 months ago but is slowly being felt by a few of my friends who trade on eBay with their cameras and lithium batteries and their orders / deliveries being delayed. Aussies sending overseas by air just be aware Aust Post will reject the parcel. Others have opted for different carriers.
The current policy was updated last January 21, 2010.

Rechargeable lithium ion batteries come with "covers" for this reason. If you're transporting an LI-ION battery in North America outside a device, it needs to have this cover.

That being said, this seems to be for some VERY large lithium batteries: not something most people should have to worry about. As the .pdf states, most consumer goods are exempt as they arent powerful enough to be of worry. I think what's being considered "dangerous" here is stuff like generator batteries or photovoltaic batteries.

If people are having issues with their camera batteries and so on, then it's isolate instances that shouldnt be the problem. Print out the PDF and take it to the post office.
