Default EXIF on web images..?

Is it possible to see the EXIF data for images on the web? The EXIF data programs I have downloaded will show me the info for my own photos but not ones I find online. Any tips?

Maybe those photos don't have EXIF data attached.

If you use Firefox then you can install Opanda EXIF or FxIF extension. Just right click the photo appears on web page and then select the EXIF extension.

On another forum, PhotographyReview dot com, images of contributors have their EXIF details as part of the web page. The web page extracts the data from the file and automatically displays it! They even have the option of contributors giving data on camera, lens, etc.

Opera Browser is able to read EXIF data of web images (if available, of course). Right click on the image and taddahh!.

Depends on if they images were saved retaining the data. "Save for Web" used to delete Exif as the only choice, but it has been updated to allow the Exif to be retained if desired.

I am curious as to why the EXIF data is important to you. Why do you need it? What do you intend to do with it? What are you hoping to learn from it? That sort of thing. I have always found that information to be of very little value for anyone's images other than my own.

You can learn from others' EXIF data.

For example, to prepare for an unfamiliar assignment, you can find out the focal lengths and proper Exposure Value (EV) range. One may have to buy or rent extra equipment and practice upon knowing such information.

If I have the same kit and am standing in the same spot as someone else, and their photo looks better than mine? I'd like to see why. Using the others EXIF, I can see they used a longer shutter speed or higher ISO. It's a nice learning tool.
One you can use for yourself. If you took a shot you didn't like and decide to return to the same spot, by checking your EXIF, you now know what settings you don't want to use.

Hi Lee

Yes I'm using it as a learning tool. When I see images that I would like to be able to create I'd like to know what was used to capture it. Obviously there are other variables that I won;t know but its a helpful tool, I believe, for someone like myself who is learning about exposure. Also to echo Rolling Stone..I am a part of a Photog meet-up group and I wanted to see what settigns some of the more expereinced members used shotting the same subject as myself and compare it to my own. Just trying to learn and use every available avenue...
