Default Ritz camera?

Just curious... The last I heard Ritz Camera was going out of business. They still have a website and they have 5% off discounts on all products. I was just wondering has anyone bought anything from them lately. If so, how was the experience?

There's a difference between Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is an attempt to hold off creditors while you get your act together, and "going out of business".

Ritz Camera was bought up by David Ritz, nephew of the company's founder, while the company was in Chapter 11 protection. The company emerged from bankruptcy last year.

Whether Ritz will survive or not remains to be seen, but thus far they're not "going out of business". The previous owners closed a lot of stores, but the current owner wants to keep the remaining ones running.

Thanks Doug!
This is some good info. Now I don't feel so worried if I decide to make a purchase with them. I'm thinking of getting another lens.

Heck ritz and wolf might as well go by by as a retail store around here, they are mostly worthless anyway as anything other then a print shop.

Inventory is very very limited and prices are higher then most online, even when I figure shipping in..

To me, Ritz has always been priced higher. I usually purchase from B&H, Adorama or Amazon.

It amazes me that any of these niche, high price, limited inventory stores are still in business. While brick and mortar stores are good for consumers and maybe even pro consumers, when you get to be a pro and are not spending hundreds BUT thousands of dollars for bodies, lenses, etc., you have to be nuts not to shop around for the best price. While price is important, you also need to be sure of the store and service. That's where forums like this can really help you.....just ask.

For those that say the local brick and mortar store support us pros and we should in return pay more and support them, I don't buy it. LOL, get it, (I don't buy it}. The only support I ever see, is the very helpful sales person who is trying to get the sale. After you walk out of the store, your history to them.

Now I know there are a few stores that have a great reputation, good for them, but I still have a problem spending hundreds more for the same item.

Good Shooting

JM
