See, going to have to disagree... I don't think my shots are much to write home about, but I know what I like to see - and on that basis I will critique someone else' shot. Not to have a laugh or belittle someone, but to try help where I can..

I voted for the hobbyist. Anyone who is serious about photography. And takes the time to learn about it.

This could be a hobbyist, or professional.

...If a kid picks up my DSLR and snaps off a shot that just happens to be brilliant, does that make him or her a photographer? Most would say not... Why then, if I had taken the shot, do I have any more right to be called a photographer just because I take a thousand shots a week?... i'd say anyone that has a certain level of competance... and, because photography is subjective [one persons art is anothers eyesore] then, we're all photographers... right...urm...

This is somewhat off topic but I agree with you to a certain extent. Although, I've been to other websites where the critiques are extremely picky about every little thing that makes a certain picture not worthy of being hung in a Gallery. Is that what we want here on DPS? Watching this forum grow over the past year I've often wondered if it wouldn't be beneficial to have someone give those kinds of critiques. It would change the whole dynamics of the critique section though. I believe that some people just want to know what others think of their pics. "If I were to hang this in my home, would others appreciate it, or is it just me?", kind of question.

Just some more food for thought.

i think its more of viewers opinion than critique as in a pro manner! i dont mind critique from members regardless of their shots.

Sorry Sime, i have to disagree. I think the pictures you have posted, and the ones i have seen are quite exceptional. I just wish i had the same eye for those shots myself.

Regards Carl.

Im guessing then the child would be charged with reckless opp or failure to control and driving without a license?
I would ask who took this picture? Plain ans simple....maybe even just Who took this?
I sy 99% of the people would respond the same way....
Do you actually go into "Who was the photographer that took this picture?"
I bet you'd say who took this? They know you are referring to the image and everyone knows its a picture so saying camera holder or DSLR owner is a moot point.

A child hitting a button doesnt study his shots and read forums to get better.....there is the difference!

I agree dave...and actually I think it should be members opinions and not critique. Critique implies knowledge will back up statements and sometimes doesnt.
