Default Impressionist Photographs

Does anyone knows how to take impressionist photographs?

I saw this site
Impressionist Photography Eva Polak - Welcome to evapolak.com.
and i am just wondering how does one achieve that effect... I would think that it could be a combination of slow shutter speed and camera motion, but that still doesnt explain to me some of the pics.

It puzzles me.

Anyone tried this style of photography? And if so, how?

Thank you.

Alexandra

From what I have seen of the gallery, you can achieve them by deliberate motion blur technique. It takes expertise and experience to take control of the slow exposures and the amount of camera shake to achieve such motion blur. Post production use of software is also part of enhancing these images by Gaussian and motion blurring. The beauty of the works are the interesting subjects and their play on your senses.

Her book looks interesting! She lets you preview a couple of techniques she uses. It mostly looks like controlled camera shake to me. She does talk about not using rules, but still adheres to basic compositional guidlines though.

Actually the book lets you preview techniques that were the most interesting to me.

i think rlucas is right. looks like controlled camera shake during exposure.
reminiscent of ernst haas photographs for life magazine, a looong time ago.
like eva polak, his subjects were carefully composed and exposed, which was harder since he does not see results till all are developed.

Maybe its just me but...

Anyone who calls their gallery a "masterpiece showcase" should be hung.
The effect actually makes me feel nauseated.

Serioulsy, I'm no pro but just an enthusiast but I agree with OsmosisStudios, those pics look rather "not comfortable" to me.
But then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess it's just me

I've done this once, and the photo was originally called "Whoops, I left my camera in AV mode and got a 1/2s shutter"

Going Home

Ironically, it got 3rd in a DPS assignment

Having looked through her work, I was rather underwhelmed.

Her composition and subject matter was just kinda "blah", nothing moving or interesting.

This isn't my cup 'O tea, which is funny because I'm a HUGE fan of post-modern impressionism. The real stuff, like Degas, Van Gogh, Monet...etc..etc...

This type of impressionism didn't really do it for me.

Impressionism isn't really a "technique". It was technically a movement, but is more of a style or even a philosophy.

So, there is no one way to "make" an impressionist photo.

Wikipedia is a good start to get some basic info. I would suggest reading up on impressionism, check your lobrary for some books and look at what the impressionist did, and then see how you can incorporate those concepts into your photography. It does not have to be camera shake or motion blur.

I noticed that too. And then she misspells "avian" .
